In Dalvik a small fishing village in the Northern part of Iceland. The most beautiful place in the world.

How would you describe as an artist? 
Rock singer and song writer

You are one of the finalist in the Icelandic selection this year. How did it all begin? 
The song writers who I know asked me to sing the song and I liked it because it is beautiful and has a true feeling.

Ég á Líf is the title of your song. What is the song about? what did you think the 1st time you heard it? 
It is about that everyone has a time in their live that they don´t feel happy and are going in the wrong direction. Then something or someone comes into your life and changes it and you find your self again. The first time a heard the song I knew there was a real story behind the lyrics and I felt it. 

Describe your song with 4 words : 
Real, True, Beautiful and Tender

What can you tell me about the performance? 
Simple performance of a beautiful song with a feeling of the story. But it is live so anything can happen.

How do you feel with the reaction of the people with your song? 
Nice

Did you listen to the songs that are going to compete with you in the selection? what do you think about them? 
Yes and some of them are really good.

What do you like about Eurovision? 
The power of the big stage

What do you dislike about Eurovision? 
Competing in art

Did you watch eurovision 2012? what do you think about the winner? 
The winner was great and I loved her performance. I saw her accoustic version of the song and that was fantastic and then she also did a song from the Icelandic superstar Bjork, Yoga.

Do you like any of the Eurovision songs from Iceland? 
Eurovisa, Botnledja. I was sad when that did not go all the way and Minn hinsti dans, Paul Oscar.

What are your plans for this year? 
I have a lot of things planed and I am especially looking forward to perform  with my own band before Deep Purple in June.

The 2nd semifinal in Iceland was yesterday and here are my comments:


Stund með þér - Sylvía Erla Scheving

I kinda like the song but her vocalss were weak.

Skuggamynd - Klara Ósk Elíasdóttir

This was one of my favorite songs and i think the performance could have been better but it was ok.

Augnablik - Erna Hrönn

I cant believe this didnt qualify, this was the best of the whole selection but i dont know what happened to the Icelandic public. Erna is such a lovable girl and she did a fantastic performance. Bravo Erna!!

THE FINALISTS

Ég syng! - Unnur Eggertsdóttir

I dont love this song but she did a very entertaining girly performance, i liked it and  the tudududu part is so catchy 

Vinátta - Halli Reynis

This wasnt one of my favorites but i liked the simple and calm performance a lot.

Til þín - Jógvan og Stefanía

This was a great performance, they are such a talented singers and the song is good. Right now they are my biggest favorites for Iceland 2013.

Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2013: Semifinal 1

The Icelandic selection started yesterday with the 1st semifinal, so im going to comment all the performances, here we go:

Im going to start with the songs that didnt qualify:


Sá sem lætur hjartað ráða för - Edda Viðarsdóttir

This was one of the songs i didnt like, its not bad but just boring and the vocal performance wasnt good last night.

Þú - Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir 

The song is nice amd i kinda like it but it was too anonymous for a competition, Yohanna is 1000times much better than the song.

Ekki líta undan - Magni Ásgeirsson

I think this deserved to qualify cause its a good song and he did a great job on stage, i hope he gets the wildcard.

THE FINALISTS

Lífið snýst - Svavar Knútur Kristinsson og Hreindís Ylva Garðarsdóttir Hólm 

This was a very sweet song with a very good and cute performance, i understand why people voted for it.

Meðal andanna - Birgitta Haukdal

I love Birgitta and i like the song but i think the performance was too robotic, the vocal performance was good but i know she can do it better. Im not sure if i want to see this in Eurovision cause this song in english is going to sound like any other eurovision ballad and i cant see the televote voting for it but who knows.

Ég á líf - Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson

I really like this song but i didnt love the performance still i think it was really good.

We are getting closer to the semifinals, how do you feel right now? 
Calm, I don´t really think of it like I´m competing, the other singers are mostly my friends, If anything I´m competing with my self, It´s up to the voters who wins, not us really 

How would you describe as an artist? 
Hmmm... Singer/songwriter, honest, powerful?

How many times have you participated in the national selection? and what memories do you have from those years? 
This is my fifth time! I´ve had a blast every time, that´s why I do it again.  

Ekki Líta Undan is the title of your song this year. What can you tell me about it? what is the song about? what did you think the 1st time you heard it? 
It´s a pop/rock song with some good lines and catchy chorus. The Icelandic lyrics deal with loss and regret. I liked it from the get go and hope I do it justice and get to do it in english in Sweden like it was meant to be.  

Describe your song with 4 words 
Catchy, powerful pop/rock 

What can you tell me about the performance? what can we expect? 
Mostly me singing it - I don´t think there´s room for pyros 

Did you listen to the songs that are going to compete with you in the selection? what do you think about them? 
There are some good ones and some not so good like in every contest, but that´s just my opinion and I´m usually wrong when it comes to jurovision ;)

What do you like about Eurovision?  
Everything, it´s a fun show and everyone has an opinion about it 

What do you dislike about Eurovision? 
The fact that everyone have to voice their opinion about it! hehe 

Did you watch eurovision 2012? what do you think about the winner?
She was amazing! There was no doubt in my mind that she would win 

Do you like any of the Eurovision songs from Iceland? 
Of course! We have mostly had good songs and even some greats that are now classics over here 

What can you tell me about "Í huganum heim"? 
My second solo album that came out last november. It has 11 songs mostly by me and Vignir my friend and producer (one of Sjonni´s friends). The album is in Icelandic, It´s very personal and close and I´m really proud of it. 

What are your plans for this year? 
Playing music, enjoying life with my family and smiling more 

Is there anything you want to say to close the interview? 
Love each other - life is shorter than you think.

Do you have any nicknames? Jógvan hjá mostir.  They call me in my home town. In the Faroe Islands they
often identify you by whom your family with. Sometimes when I introduce myself to elders I say : Jógvan hjá
Ásu(my mother), hjá Hans Jacob(mom´s father), hjá Dáva(my grandfathers father). All in one sentence.

Eventhough we are a under the sovereignty of Denmark. You see that our language is 100% more related to
Icelantic. I would say that we have no similarities with Denmark or the Danish people.
Tell me some of your bad habits: Bite my nails, and tobacco
When did you start singing? Childrens Choir at the age of 9.
If you were the journalist what would you ask to Jogvan? and tell me your answer:
Is it true that you ripped a hole on the back of your pants on your new Hugo Boss suit, while you were
singing on-stage with 1000 people in front of you ? I would have to respond: YES ….

Hey Jógvan, how do you feel right now?
Tired. Its 4 in the morning and my 13 month old son has a high fever and he cant sleep so I don´t get to sleep... 

How would you describe yourself as an artist?
I would say Im an entertainer as much as an artist. 50% is singing and 50% is how you express yourself. People who think that you only have to have a great voice to become apart of the stage are dead wrong.

How many times have you participated in the national selection? and what memories do you have from those years?
I have had the privilege to participate 3 times before. I love to meet up with all the musicians and singers such a great atmosphere in our little green room everytime. Never felt a hint of competition between artist. Only joy and the looking forward to go to a great party afterwards.

You are one of the 12 finalist of this year. How did it all begin?

You are not alone this year, you are going to sing with Stefanía Svavarsdóttir, what can you tell me about her?
She is one of the persons that isn´t trying to hard to be what she is. A star ! Great, great talent. And she may not know it but she´s gonna be singing for all her life.

Til þín is the title of your song, what did you think the 1st time you heard it?
The very first time I heard it I didn´t like it at all. But when they changed the production I felt like I was listening to a new song. Like a hidden flower.

Describe the song with 4 words.
Powerful, melodic, great dynamic and awesome singers.

What can you tell me about the performance? what can we expect?
Two people on stage trying to do their best.

What do you think about the other artists that are going to compete with you in the selection? what do you think about their songs?
Well as I have said in the interview before. There is really no competition amongst the artists. Its only a mask that the Tv-production company puts on us to make it look more interesting. I like all the songs. Cause I know how much effort you have to put in the music to try to get everybody to like it.

What do you like about Eurovision?
All the glamour, joy and good talent.

What do you dislike about Eurovision?
That sometimes contries send some of their " joke " acts that nobody else finds funny. Like when we sent Sylvia Nótt.

Did you watch eurovision 2012? what do you think about the winner?
The winner in 2012 is one of those rare hits that only come by ones in a decate. There hasn´t been such a good hit since " Fly on the wings of love" in 2000

Do you like any of the Eurovision songs from Iceland?
I think the best on so far is " Is it true" that Johanna Guðrún sang in 2009

What are your plans for this year?
Having a blast in the studio, making new concerts with my friend Fridrik Ómar,  and winning Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpssinsins.

Is there anything you want to say to close the interview?

Iceland 2012: Gréta Salóme & Jónsi are the winners

Yaaay, im very happy with this, they were one of my favorites and im sure Iceland is going to be on my favorites once again. I have to say Cogratulations to RUV because the Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2012 had great songs.

This song is nice but not a winner  for me, the performance was kinda boring but the last part was good it had all the energy that the whole performance needed.

I didnt watch the semifinal 2 but i watched all the videos on youtube, as last week 5 songs competed and now we got 2 songs in the final. Im going to start posting the videos from the non finalists:

She is fantastic, her vocals were so good, she was the best of the performance, the song was meh but i read that she has a song in the 3rd semifinal so i hope its better than this one cause i really like her.

Rósa Birgitta Ísfeld - Stund með þér

I like this song a lot and she did a good performance so im kinda sad/mad cause she deserved to be in the final.

A very good semifinal, i dont dislike any song, i dont have a favorite right now but the 3 songs i like the most are the songs by Simbi, Rósa and Regína.
