What are you really good at? Hehe I can’t tell you that. That would be bragging 😅😇
What are you really bad at? Acting. I don’t know how to be somebody other than myself! Hahaha

The movie title: HAHAHA! I have no idea! Behind Kid Isak or something hahaha.
Favorite movie: I actually don’t have one. I enjoy most movies.
Favorite TV series: Oh I have many! I like She-Ra, The Circle, Dragon Prince. Mostly cartoons on Netflix.
Dish/Snack/Beverage/Candy we should try if we ever visit Iceland: Iceland has a lot of nice vegan restaurants! I recommend them all.
What is your guilty pleasure? My guilty pleasure? I mean I like butts. Does that count? Hahaha.
If you were a girl for a day, what would you do? I would probably live my life the same, except I would probably have way more experience with guys.

Can you teach me some interesting words in Icelandic? Sure! “Ég vona að þér líki lagið mitt í Söngvakeppninni 2020!” That means “I hope you like my song in the Singing Contest 2020”

How would you describe yourself as an artist?
I would describe myself as an awkward, but very positive person. I’m a big kid with a passion for making music and making people happy! 

You are one of the participants of Söngvakepnin 2020, how did it all begin?
I am! It was actually quite fast. Króli, one of the writers for the song, messaged me on Instagram and asked for my number. He’s already very famous here. He called me and asked me if I was willing to record a demo song with him and if he could pick me up within the hour. Long story short, that’s how it began!

Ævintýri" is the title of your song, and it's written by Þormóður Eiríksson, Kristinn Óli Haraldsson and Jóhannes Damian Patreksson, how was it to work with them?
It was actually a dream come true to work with them. I’ve always wanted to work with Þormóður! I never realistically thought I would ever work with Króli and JóiPé, because I personally find them way more talented than me, so that was just amazing! 

What’s the story behind the song?
The song is about when you bond with someone in a way that seems almost too good to be true, and how it’s like a Fantasy. The song would correctly be translated to Fantasy.

What can we expect to see on stage for the performance?
The performance will be genuine. I don’t want it to feel inauthentic or pretentious.

What do you like about Eurovision?
I love everything about Eurovision. It’s a place where all these countries and cultures get to showcase their tastes in music. 

What do you dislike about Eurovision?
I don’t really dislike anything about Eurovision. Perhaps maybe the harsh judgements, if I have to find something.

What are your plans for 2020?
2020 is uncertain! But it’s looking great so far. This is definitely going to be the most progressive year of my life.

Iceland 2019: Hatari

The song that will represent Iceland this year is called "Hatrid mun sigra" and it will be performed by Hatari.

Look at Iceland going from Ari to Hatari! This is such a fucking awesome entry! When I heard the songs from the NF I thought this was the most daring one and then I watched their performance and what they did in stage was just out of this world. Either you love it or hate it, I think this will grab people for those 3 minutes and they will talk about it during/after the contest.

The winner of Söngvakeppnin 2017 is... SVALA!

The Icelandic NF was one of the best ones this year, I really liked the 7 finalists, so good job to all the acts and everyone involved in Söngvakeppnin! I love Svala, she is such a passionate performer, I hope her team works hard on the esc performance cause she is in the hardest semifinal and the performance as it is right now is pretty good but Im not sure how votable it is. Wish her all the best in Eurovision!

(I've written a letter to Dadi saying "I LOVE YOU") This was so cute! I loved the song since the first time I heard it but the performance made it even better. So glad the Icelandic audience voted for them, I would have loved to see this in Eurovision. Good job Dadi!

Hi, I am doing very well thank you!

How would you describe yourself as an artist?
I would say that I am an 80s funk/disco influenced synthpop alternative dance music producer.

You are one of the participants of Söngvakeppnin 2017. How did it all begin?
I had made the backing track to the demo a while back and never used it for anything. I decided to write some vocals over that to send in to the competition and here we are.

“Hvað með það?/Is this love?” is the title of your song, what’s the story behind it?
The story is pretty simple. Boy meets girl. Boy is shy. Talks to girl. Girl says: lets go home. Basically its about doing something even if it feels uncomfortable. Just try out stuff, who knows what could happen? Take a chance.

Synthy, Geeky, Happy & More

What can we expect to see on stage for the performance?
You can expect to see custom clothing and self-made electronic instruments. Wind machine, some dancing, lots of singing and maybe confetti.

Have you heard any of the other songs in the competition? Any favorite?
Svala’s Paper is a powerful tune.

What do you like about Eurovision?
I like that it brings europeans together for a night of music. And the bigness of it. The stage is always amazing and the performances are super entertaining.

What do you dislike about Eurovision?
Sometimes I don’t like the songs.

Maybe half a year, maybe a year, were not quite sure yet. 2017 is going to be a busy year.

Me and my stepmom wanted to make a cheerfull upbeat song after hearing Justin's Timberlake song "Can't stop the feeling" and here we are today. 

“Þú hefur dáleitt mig/Hypnotised” is the title of your song, what’s the story behind it?
Its about love and how love can hypnotise you, especially when you are having a hard time in life. The love can save you through hard times.

Love, cheerfull, upbeat, happy.

What can we expect to see on stage for the performance?
Happiness, happiness, happiness.

Yes all of them. I think Júlí Heiðars song is really catchy and good

Its about Guðmundurs relationship with his girlfriend that lives in Austria. Skype love.

Hello Svala! Welcome to the Eurovision world! How are you?
I´m doing awesome.

How would you describe yourself as an artist?
I´m a songwriter and a singer.  I´m a very visual artist and I work a lot on my own music videos and photoshoots. I´ve been in music for a very long time. Basically since I was a little girl. Released solo albums and started recording when I was only 7 years old in Iceland. I was in the band Steed Lord from 2006 to 2015. I´m most known for making electronic music. My new band is called Blissful and I´m in that band with my husband Einar who is a songwriter, producer and director. He was also in Steed Lord with me.  My music is very personal and my lyrics are as well.  

You are one of the participants of Söngvakeppnin 2017. How did it all begin?
We actually didn´t write Paper for Söngvakeppnin originally. We wrote it for our band Blissful but then decided that it would fit perfectly for Söngvakeppnin and sent it in very last minute and here we are.

“Ég veit það/Paper” is the title of your song, and it’s written by you, Einar Egilsson, Lester Mendez, Lily Elise and Stefán Hilmarsson. How was it working with them?
Einar is actually my husband, Lester and Lily are good friends of ours. We have been writing with them a lot and this is one of the songs that came out of those writing sessions. We actually wrote the song in a couple of hours in february of 2016 in Los Angeles where me and my husband have lived for 7 years. Me and Einar write a lot of music together and have done for 10 years. The last three years we´ve been writing a lot with other songwriters and producers, writing for our band and for other artists. We had a lot of fun writing Paper and the vocals on the track are actually the original demo vocal I recorded a couple of hours after writing the song.  We kept the vocals because they had so much feeling in them and intensity. A week later I recorded all the backing vocals. But it wasn´t until many months later when we got into the Söngvakeppnin that we had to record the song in icelandic cause you have to have the song in both icelandic and english for Söngvakeppnin. And I had my friend and amazing artist Stefán Hilmarsson write the icelandic lyric for us. He has competed in Eurovision twice on the behalf of Iceland with the songs Sókrates and Nína years ago.

What’s the story behind the song?
I really wanted to write a song about someone who was going through a very rough and difficult time like we all do sometimes in life.  I wanted people to be able to relate to the song in different ways. And we had this idea to use the word paper as a metaphore for a soul or someones life. Because you can take paper and burn it, cut it, rip it, draw on it, glue it together, make art out of it and much more. And so that´s how the idea began. I wanted my experience with severe anxiety to be a part of the lyric in some way and we found a way to do that. So this song is very personal for me. But it also makes me feel strong when I sing it cause I feel like I´m facing my fears while singing it. Like I´m not gonna back down because of my fears.

Survivor, love, life and human.

What can we expect to see on stage for the performance?
It´s a secret but I can promise you that it will be unforgettable. My all time favourite thing in this world is to perform live.

Have you heard any of the other songs in the competition? Any favorite?
Yes I´ve heard all 11 songs that are competing in Söngvakeppnin and I think they are all very good.  I especially like the song by Hildur. I think she´s a great artist and very talented.

What do you like about Eurovision?
It´s a great platform for songwriters to show their skills. And I like the fact that you can unite people with music.

What do you dislike about Eurovision?
Sometimes it´s more about the gimmicks on stage then the actual songwriting skill.

What are your plans for 2017?
Right now I´m taping The Voice in Iceland and Team Svala is in full force and doing amazing in the competition. My team won last year so I´m defending my title this year on the show. We are relasing our second single with our band Blissful called "Find A Way" and our music video. Our first single "Elevate" has gotten over 230 thousand plays on Spotify and we are in talks with a couple of record labels that are interested in Blissful. So that´s very exciting.  I´m competing in Söngvakeppnin in the beginning of march.  Doing some shows in LA with my band Blissful. And lots more.

Iceland 2016: Greta Salome

The winner of Söngvakeppnin 2016 is...GRETA SALOME!

The best act won and Im happy for it but there are some things that Greta and her team need to work on for Eurovision. The staging is good but it reminds you a lot of 2 Eurovision winners (Loreen/Mans) and I think that will make her lose some points. I also think that singing the song in english is a mistake, I know the song was written in english but the Icelandic version was so much better. Overall I think she could do well (Top 12) cause she has a pretty solid entry (Song/Stage performance) but at the same time I wouldnt be surprised if she gets the same result she got in 2012. Good luck Iceland!

When you lose the one you love into the hope of better life, you still hold on to the chance of going back

Sincere, denial, tragic, hope

What can we expect to see on stage for the performance?
A really simple and sincere performance where we will sing with our guitars to each other.

Do you already know what you’re going to wear for the semifinal?
Actually yes, we just bought the clothes. We would like to keep it a surprise though

It's so big. I mean every family in Iceland is watching and everything behind the scenes is so big. It’s so much fun.

Alda Dís: We got now until forever!

Hello Iceland! Time for our first Songvakeppnin 2016 interview! Here are the answers of ALDA DÍS:

What’s your strangest talent? I'm good at hula hooping
What is the strangest thing you have in your room? Superwoman costume
What are you really good at? Singing, decorating and organizing
What are you really bad at? Being on time (sorry dad).
Childhood idol: Celine Dion and Whitney Houston
Childhood memory: I was 5 and my brother 14 and we were boxing with socks on our hands when I accidentally punched him in the balls, he was not so happy and I kind of won.
Tell me something no one knows about you: I have troubles with falling asleep at night.
What would you do if you were invisible? Everything, no one could see me to stop me.
Favorite movie: Love actually
Favorite TV series: Hart of Dixie, Flesh and bones, Pretty little liars, Modern family and Friends.

When did you start singing? My mom says i was singing before i was talking.
Can you teach me some interesting words in Icelandic? Yes, elbow is Úlnliður (try to pronounce it) and when there is a major chaos we say "það er allt er á tjá og tundri".

Hello Alda! How are you?
I'm super good.

How would you describe yourself as an artist?
I think I can sing almost whatever style of music; I’m powerful but I can also be really sweet. Besides that I am awesome!

You are one of the participants of Söngvakeppnin 2016. How did it all begin?
Well this has been in the works for quite a while now with the whole team involved. My managers, Steinunn and Soffia discussed this with the writers Alma Goodman and James Wong early 2015, about writing a song with me in mind. Then Jimmy was writing for Justin Bieber's Purpose album and I was writing my debut album "Heim". With our busy schedules we still longed for making that one true Eurovision song and then Alma Goodman and Jimmy got together and wrote "Now" the english part of the album and then me and Alma sat down wrote "Augnablik" the Icelandic version together. The whole birth of the song summarizes all our individual adventures together in being in the now.

“Augnablik” is the title of your song, what’s the story behind it?
The song is about putting the past behind and try to live in the moment and enjoy the passing moment.

Describe the song with 4 words:
Powerful, meaningful, anthemic and legendary.

What can we expect to see on stage for the performance?
Backing singers, drummer and a guitarist and one hell of a performance.

Did you watch Eurovision 2015? Who were your favorites?
Yes I did! My favorite was Love injected by Aminata from Latvia.

What do you like about Eurovision?
Everything! There is so much work put in everything, the song, the vocals and just the whole performance. It's amazing!

What do you dislike about Eurovision?
What is there to dislike? If I had to say anything I would say the negative discussions on the internet if someone fails. We are human we all make mistakes!

Snow: Olaf (don't know why, just watched Frozen).
Color: Pink
Mystery: Eurovision
Ísland got talent: Me (omg just telling the truth here)
Fear: Cats
Cat: Fear
Dreams: Singing for the world

What are your plans for 2016?
I'm trying to enjoy the moment and not think too much ahead of time but I’m in the Icelandic academy of the Arts and I’m gonna write some songs and keep on performing and singing.
